Review: Crusade of Fire

In the closing months of 2012 a campaign book titled ‘crusade of fire’ was released by games workshop for its warhammer 40k game. At first glance it’s not too dissimilar to the book ‘blood in the badlands’ that was released late in 2011. It revolves around the use of the currently selling planetary empires campaign set that you can buy from them. But let’s have a deeper look into the book, without cynically suggesting that it’s just a way to raise sales on a rather specialist item.

Lighting strike... Eldar/Dark eldar vs Bike Marines 1500

This is my last battle of 40k in 2012, and as such it felt right that I keep on using my evolving list, to see how it handles at the end of the year. As of 2013 I'm planning of getting a real kick start on my renegade guard so I might not have as much time for the eldar as I would like. But we shall see. Anyway back on topic, it’s a 1500 point game of the emperors will, with vanguard strike deployment.

List Evolution III: The next level

So once again its time to look at my Eldar list and see what i can do to improve it. This list went 0-2 against Space marines and chaos space marines. Not a great record, but doesn't have anything that can be salvaged?

Ripper Bolgrot WIP

I have started work on Ripper Bolgrot and would like to share with you what i have done already. As i was unsure how to paint the troll straight away i got a 40mm round base that i had spare knocked up for him first.

As you can see from the base i decided to put a rather unfortunate player on his base. I wanted it to have the impression he died in a game long ago and instead of bothering to take him off the pitch, he has over time been trampled into the ground and even painted over. What do you think of the result?

As for Ripper himself, i have started with a gray skin and dark blue scales, both washed with a blue wash. This way i hope it all ties together. Next i will dry brush some lighter colours on him and see what happens. The only thing i am still unsure about is what colours to paint his armor. Do i give him his own unique set as after all he is a star player? or do i give him the same as my Orc team (to be fair, they aren't exactly painted atm). So what do you guys think? what colours should i paint his Armour/protective gear?

An Unexpected Gift - Ripper Bolgrot

Last week i received a gift from a friend of mine as a late birthday present. It was a massive surprise and it was the star player Ripper Bolgrot. This has made me want to play blood bowl again, as it has been a long time since i last played it.

I know i said the next thing that i would paint would be the war walkers (they are getting painted, i promise) but this guy has just had to jump the Que. Its been ages since i last painted a troll, let alone a blood bowl player. And my friend has demanded to see him painted. So my hands are tied really. What more can i say?

Night Raid... Dark Eldar vs Chaos space marines 1500

Once again my Dark Eldar get sick of playing second fiddle and take to the stage solo, this time against Typhus and his chaos space marines in a 1500 point game of Emperors will, with Vanguard strike deployment. 

Old school Arbite Judge

Some models just don't seem to age, yet they are sometimes the ones that disappear from the rules. This little guys is one such example, the detail is fantastic and the model just looks amazing. I got him cheap off ebay and he has just arrived. So i though i would share him with you all... hes next on the paint list after the war walkers... promise.

For those of you who don't know what he is, he is a Judge from the Adeptus Arbites. The Arbitrators (also called enforcers) are the police of the imperium so to speak, they have precincts on each world and punish those who brake the imperial law. However they are not forced to just look after one planet, they have their own ships and transports allowing them to punish the guilty no matter who they are, where they are, or their rank.

The judges command forces of enforcers and can call upon the full resources of the imperium. They often fight the first flames of rebellion and heresy and then get supported by the guard or space marines. They are pretty important guys, like a mini inquisitors but in a uniform.

I don't know why but the arbites have always fascinated me, and i don't have much fluff for them bar whats mentioned in necromunda and 2nd edition. Anyway i hope this little lesson has been as interesting for you as i find the subject.

Darkness Falls... Chaos/Dark Eldar vs Blood angels 2500 points

Taking a little brake from the eldar, I bring out the dark eldar (not much of a difference I know) to join forces with chaos (unfluffy... but such is life) against an army of blood angels. So its 2500 points a side in a game of Big guns never tier, with dawn of war deployment.

40K planets

I am looking for inspiration for creating a map of a planet for a campaign i might be running in the near future, and i would like your help with how a typical inhabited imperial planet might look like in the 40k universe. 

Daemon Prince model

I recently got send this pic of my mates Daemon Prince, i think its cool so i though i would share it with you all. The head swap with the defiler head and green stuff eyes makes him stand out from the crowd of standard princes. The wings have been magnetised so they can be used or not.

Shit Just Got Real

Well that's a horrible awakening, i have just had to start playing Google in order to get more photo space. Its not much but still it makes me think. Should i start trying to get some money out of my site by putting up adds? Would it ruin it or would you guys not care? What do you think?

White Dwarf December 2012 - Review

So it’s that time of month again, we have another white dwarf magazine out, December 2012. The big news which everyone knows about is the release of the hobbit game (I say release, re-name would be more accurate) and to be honest, not much else.

What to paint next - Poll results

Last week i put out a poll on what you guys wanted to see me paint next, warp spiders, warlocks, war walkers or jet bikes. And the poll is now closed and results are in.

So i got a grand total of 14 votes, and 57% of the votes went for the war walkers. I gotta say i was surprised but the people have spoken, and i will do as you command. Keep an eye out for them in the future (future, not any time soon, im very slow at painting).

Renegade guard 500 point army

With my renegade guard sitting in pieces, the urge to put them together has slowly been building up. Before I waste any time or money on this army I want to have a list properly built so I know what I'm doing with it. So what do you think of the following list?

What should I paint next?

So with the Fire dragons finally finished i'm not 100% sure what i should paint. What is a guy to do when hes unsure? obviously open it up to the internet. So what do you think i should paint out of the following units?

Fire Dragons painted

So i have finally got my first squad of 6 fire dragons re-painted in my colour scheme, and they look ok. I'm not a great painter but they are table top standard which will do for me for now. For some reason they look darker than the rest of my models yet they have been painted the same way... cant explain it, but i don't think it matters much.

Just a little note, as i am doing all of my aspect warriors the same colour, instead of the myriad of colours GW does them i have painted the sash and stones the red/orange that signify fire dragons. It isn't much but i felt that it was needed.

Battle for your soul... Eldar/Dark Eldar vs Chaos space marines 1500 points

The pheonix lord finally gets to the battle field

Returning to my evolving list I decide to give it a spin against chaos space marines. We get purge the alien with dawn of war deployment. This would be a good test for the list as its going against the newest codex so let’s still how the eldar can cope against what I'm expecting to see 6^th edition turn into.

Second stage of evolution: the next step

So it’s that time again where I have to go over my list and see what I can do to improve it. This is always a bit of a struggle as I'm never sure what would be the obvious choice to improve the list, but here we go...

Slaughter at the gate... Chaos marines/Orks vs Blood angels/Guard 2000 points

Another brake from the elder again, I bring out my old boyz to join up with a chaos space marine army vs. blood angels. So this is a 2000 point game of ‘The Relic’ with hammer and anvil deployment. The terrain was set up before we rolled for the mission and deployment which was a happy coincidence. One force will be attacking the city, the other defending it.

White Dwarf November 2012 - review

Again this is very late but I’m going to put it out there anyway, with last month’s new style of white dwarf I got curious to see if they could keep it up and see if any bad habits have crept back into the magazine. So this is another little review of white dwarf for you to get my impressions of it.

Angels descent... Eldar/Dark Eldar vs Blood angels 1500

It’s been a while but I have got back to my evolving eldar list again, and once again its up against my friends blood angels. I know it’s nothing new but it’s always fun playing against him. This 1500 point game is purge the alien with a dawn of war deployment.

Warlock painted

Well it’s been over a week since I issued the 3 night painting challenge to myself (which was a major failure) but I have added a warlock to that pile of painted miniatures. I know I’m slow, but deal with it. However, I’m not 100% sure I like him how I have painted him, as I didn’t want to cloak to be purple I decided to do it either blue or bleach bone and settled for the latter. I wanted him to stand out in a squad and he does now but is it too much? What do you guys think, let me know.

As a little side note next to get painted will be the fire dragons, I need to get them painted again as having them just based it a little painful as they look dreadful. 

Kin war... Eldar vs Dark eldar 1500 points

 I know it has been a while but I have finally got back to a proper battle report at a good size game. I take on the dark eldar with my eldar (pure eldar this time) in a 1500 point crusade game. Now if you think the models are familiar it’s because they are, my friend is moving house so has packed away his Tyranids for now, so he asked if he could play with my dark eldar instead.

3 Night challenge: night 3

So that's the 3 nights over, i did have big plans for what i would get painted but unfortunately this didn't come to fruition. Instead the whole time was wasted on a single squad of eldar guardians. At least something got painted i guess.

I am stupidly slow at painting, but i can live with that. Do you guys have any tips that can increase painting speed? how fast can you all do it? just curious.

Here are the pics of the guardians full painted, however the warlock and weapons platform still isn't painted. better keep an eye out for them in future.

3 Night challenge: Night 2

So the second night has passed and i have a few models to show for it. Am i happy with my progress? hell no. I have to be one of the slowest painters in the history of 40 k. 3 Nights to paint that list i put up was very optimistic so i will be surprised if i even finish half of the list. Still one more night to go... so you never know.

3 Night Painting challenge: Night 1

Well last night was the first night of the painting challenge and to be honest... it didn't go very well. I sat down, started painting then i stopped and went out. Always a good start. But i did get some (almost) done. 3 guardians are about 80% done, just need a new hight lights and the bases finished off. To make up for it i will get my ass into gear and get a lot more done tonight. Anyway this is what i have done so far.

The 3 night painting challenge

So over the next 3 nights i have no plans, none what so ever so i have issued my self the challenge of painting as much of a dint into my Eldar army as i think i can. So for starters i have the following models to paint:

The traitors wrath... chaos space marines vs space wolves 500

I got an odd text from a friend who I haven’t seen in quite a while asking if I wanted a game of warhammer, but it was to be 40k, 500 points, I had to use space wolves and all the models have to be painted. I accepted as I was rather curious and I wasn’t told why until the game. My friend had just bought the new chaos codex and wanted to give his old chaos force a spin. So we had a 500 point game using the Battle force recon mission, Chaos space marines vs Space wolves.

Games workshop... not cool dude

Just so you know, i was planning on writing a review for the new Chaos codex, pre-ordered it from GW, though it would get here on the day of release. I got nothing... Not cool dudes.

A clash of steal... Eldar/Dark eldar vs Imperial guard 1500

My second game with the allies list and I’m up against imperial guard in a 1500 point game of the relic with vanguard strike deployment. With a loss with this list under my belt already I feel that I may have learnt something and will hopefully use this list a bit better tactically.

White dwarf october 2012 - review

With white dwarf going though some major changes this month I thought that it would be worth me just giving my views on this new format. I know I’m a little late at doing this but I have been a little busy.

Brothers unite... Eldar + Dark eldar vs Blood angels 1500

With my new list under my belt, I felt a little more confident about what I can take on with my list so I asked my blood angel faring friend for a re-match, and to bring a hard list for me to test my list against. So this week is a game of the relic, with dawn of war deployment.

The first stage of evolution: improving the list

With my 3 games over with my current 1500 point Eldar list, the time has come to go over it and see what changes I can make to (hopefully) increase its ability to take on any opponent.  It currently stands at 1 victory to 2 defeats. Not terrible but could be a lot worse, let’s see if it does.

Upon the Anvil... Eldar vs Blood angels w/ Guard 1500

So this is my 3^rd and final game with my current eldar list, and once again it’s against blood angels (obviously I don’t like wining). This time I’m going to take what I have learnt and try a totally different tactic. Let’s see if my pointy eared space elves can beat the vampire marines.

Tinkering with terrain

This week i had a bit of free time and so i had a moment of inspiration and found my old school necromunda bulk heads and a cereal box and made this little outpost for the hell of it. It will be painted soon... probably. 

Review - Imperial Armour: Aeronautica

Curiosity finally got the better of me and I decided to purchase Imperial Armour: Aeronautica from forge world.  I just wanted to see what they did with their vast number of flyers and ant-aircraft vehicles. With the introduction of the flyers to regular game of 40k, and the current lack of anti-air units I though it could be quite interesting.

The list game 2... Eldar vs Bike marines 1500

Game two with my current eldar list and this time I’m against a ravenwing army using vanilla marines codex. So bikes, bikes, bikes in a 1500 point game. We rolled for mission and got the relic with dawn of war deployment.

Dragons and Angels... Eldar vs Blood angels 1500

Once again I go against my friends blood angels in a 1500 point game. This time I went with a hybrid list instead of purely mech eldar. Hopefully it will prove to be better. Mission: Crusade (5 objectives), Deployment: vanguard strike.

Unleashing the storm... Eldar vs Tyranids 1500

Last week I sent an email to Imperius dominatus asking what they believed would make a good elder army and got the following reply. I decided to give this kind of a list a spin against my buddies Tyranids as I always seem to have a problem against him (I suck, I know). This game was a 1500 points game, mission: The scourging, deployment: Hammer and Anvil.

The little green horde... Goblins vs high elves 1500

A quick injection of Warhammer fantasy for you guys today, a bit of a spare of a moment game against my friends high elves. 1500 points, battle line game using a goblin only army. Now it’s been quite a while since we have both played fantasy so if you spot any mistakes, and their will be mistakes, please forgive us.

Second game of apocalypse, 10K a side

Again we played a game of apocalypse over the weekend and with 5 people a team we ended up with 10k a side. Imperium of man (+Eldar) vs Chaos space marines (+Tyranids & Eldar). It took over 8 hours and we only ended up on turn 4... dear god it took ages. Again i don't know what every one had, this is just pictures.
